A brilliant couple of days at Way Out West. My hunting mate and good friend Richard and I both had a great time. The country is stunning: rolling green hills sloping down to the coast, with big sand dunes and a lake tucked behind them. Plenty of game about too — over the two days we got onto geese, a turkey, hares, and rabbits, so there was always something to chase. It’s not a hardcore trophy destination, and that’s not really the point — for anyone newer to hunting, and especially bow and crossbow hunters, it’s a great spot close to Auckland to get out, practice on real quarry and put your gear through its paces without traveling far. A good place to test your kit — your bow or crossbow — on live game. Nick looked after us really well. The campervan is beautifully set up and comfortable, and the hot shower with its strong pressure was a proper treat after a day in the hills—honestly, we were both blown away by it. Easy to deal with, great spot, and we’ll be back. Highly recommend.
